A sunny day, with temperatures up to 20 degrees, greeted me when I turned up at Cheshire Oaks.
My initial plan for the session was to target the Carp using some of Spotted Fin’s new Ready Made Pastes and a couple of the recent products release which included the new Milled Particles (Classic Corn and Catalyst), but had to put both on the back burner due to a number of things. The main issue on the day was a horrid swirling wind, which would not let me present a paste bait in the manner I would have like to and thus ruling out feeding the new Milled Particle blend over the top so that was put back in the bag for my next outing on the bank. Plan two had to be brought out the bag.
As with a lot of fisheries all over the country, there is the need to use their own fishery Pellets for feeding. This is fine but sometimes there is a need to boost a bait to try and put a few extra fish in the net, so with this in mind I purchased a couple of bags of 6mm Pellets and a bag of Micros from the onsite shop and changed my mind set on how I was going to fish the session.
A change over to the fishery 6mm Pellets, a small amount of 6mm Classic Corn Pellets (for the hook) then I split the bought micro pellets into two batches after adding water and left them to soak. I put half the soaked pellets into one tub and the rest into another tub and then I added some of the of the GO2 Liquid Yellow and Classic Corn Bait Sauce and mixed the micros around and within 20 seconds the micros had turned from the standard colour to a vibrant yellow and even I was surprised by the dramatic change of colour (they looked fantastic).
My initial plan was to fish long at 14.5m but the wind put a stop to that within minutes. I then set a track line at 8m out and a closer in line 2+2 on the pole with an option for a shallow rig over the top of the track line, as there was plenty of fish moving with it being so warm. I kicked the session off buy cupping in 150mls of the treated micros on the short line and 150mls 0f 6mm pellets on the track line I set about getting my top kits ready, Shallow rig was a DT floats 0.2g Blob, track rig was a DT floats 0.3g F1 Wire with a 2mm hollow bristle down to a 16s hook and the short line was a DT floats Carbon slim again with a 2mm hollow bristle and I was ready to go. Started off on the track line with a 6mm fishery pellet on the hook and after 15minutes I was still biteless but I was keeping my eye on the closer line and I started to notice feed bubbles over the area where I dropped the treated micros in.
I brought the track rig in and the short line was shipped out, again 6mm fishery pellet on the hook for no bites, shipped back and swapped the pellet for a Classic Corn 6mm dropped in a second later the first bite and fish was on a lovely 5lb Mirror carp. Popped the fishery pellet on and again and no bites, swapped to classic corn and again the float dipped and fish on. Steady away now with the bites and fish, I had to top up the close line every 20 minutes with the treated micros to keep the bites coming, I did manage to persuade the odd carp on the fishery 6mm pellet but it was so noticeable the Classic Corn pellet was out fishing them. I did have a few fish on the other two lines but slogged it out for a few hours more to put a tidy net together for some pictures (with the okay from the onsite staff for a net). What a nice job from a unpredictable day with the weather, but again it is always good to have a backup plan just in case the original plan does not get a look in.
There has been some fantastic additions to the bait range right across Spotted Fin so there will always be something new for you to try out, the liquids dye is not just for pellets it will be ideal for Corn Meat etc and plenty of other baits you would like to try too.
